Join Airbnb's Engineering Team
Airbnb is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Personalization and Contextualization Infrastructure team. This role is pivotal in enhancing the search infrastructure that powers Airbnb's marketplace, connecting guests with hosts in a seamless and personalized manner.
The Role
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:
- Work on search infrastructure engineering projects to improve the search experience, collaborating with product teams.
- Enhance system reliability, scalability, and performance in partnership with Infrastructure teams.
- Utilize data from the Knowledge Graph to power rich product use-cases and enrich existing data.
- Build the next-generation search platform to support various Airbnb products, including typeahead, contextualizing, and personalizing search results.
A Typical Day
- Spend focused time implementing key components of the search platform, with GitHub Copilot as your assistant.
- Analyze large datasets, build hypotheses, experiment, learn, and iterate.
- Deliver technical presentations and proposals to partners, and document existing systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners, such as product managers and designers, on the technical design of new search features.
- Participate in in-person gatherings with team members and partners.
Your Expertise
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics is required.
- Exceptional coding skills in Java and Python, with a strong understanding of algorithms and data structures.
- Experience in analyzing and deriving insights from large datasets using simple machine learning techniques.
- Open source contributions to Lucene/ElasticSearch are highly valued.
- Strong technical writing skills are desirable.
- New graduates with substantial coding experience are encouraged to apply.
Location
This position is Remote Eligible within the United States. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required, as agreed with your manager. You must reside in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.

Compensation
- Salary Range: $185,000—$223,000 USD
- This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and Employee Travel Credits.
