The Role
As a Staff Software Engineer in the Pricing and Availability team at Airbnb, you will be pivotal in leading the development and refinement of major new features that are central to the guest experience. This role involves reconciling new features with existing functionality, collaborating closely with designers to shape product goals into feasible and viable user experiences, and identifying underlying patterns and abstractions to enhance developer velocity while maintaining technical quality on critical surfaces.
Responsibilities
- Design the future state of our technical systems by combining strategic understanding of our highest level product goals with a deep understanding of our existing systems.
- Lead Engineers both inside and outside your immediate team in building out technical solutions.
- Nurture a culture of happy, healthy teams by providing supportive feedback, maintaining technical quality, and fostering a fun work environment.
- Steer end-to-end product development with Product Managers, Design, and UX by engaging early and often to guide teams on the most efficient paths towards overall goals.
- Collaborate with internal teams across Search, Checkout, Reservations, Host Settings, Listings, Payments, Tax, Cities, Trust, and others.
Your Expertise
- 9+ years of relevant software development experience in a fast-paced tech environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in backend systems within large-scale service-oriented architectures.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within and across teams.
- Strong programming skills in Scala, Python, Java, or equivalent for hands-on IC work.
- Passion for efficiency, availability, system quality, and user experience.
- A commitment to leveling-up those around you through curiosity and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
Location
This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
