As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in point cloud processing, you will play a crucial role in our mission to support sustainable forestry and climate mitigation.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the data science team to understand the requirements and objectives for point cloud data processing projects.
- Design, develop, and maintain efficient and scalable software for processing and analyzing point cloud data using Python and C++.
- Implement algorithms for point cloud registration, segmentation, feature extraction, and classification.
- Contribute to, improve, and maintain the processing pipeline codebase, focusing on parallelization, testing, code quality, and optimization.
- Integrate point cloud processing solutions with the overall IT infrastructure, including web-based applications and scan upload systems.
- Initiate, monitor, and maintain data processing jobs, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently.
- Optimize existing code for performance and scalability.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices in software development.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to point cloud data processing.
- Document software designs, code, and processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in software development using Python and C++.
- Proven track record in developing software for point cloud processing.
- Familiarity with libraries such as PCL (Point Cloud Library) and Open3D.
- Strong understanding of parallel processing and performance optimization techniques.
- Comprehensive understanding of 3D geometry and point cloud data structures.
- Experience with point cloud processing algorithms such as registration, segmentation, and feature extraction.
- Proficiency with version control systems.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with large-scale 3D datasets.
- Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and their application to point cloud data is an advantage.
- Knowledge of forestry and/or remote sensing is a plus.
- Strong collaboration skills.
- Good time management skills.
