About the Role
American Express is seeking talented Software Engineering Interns to join our 10-week Summer Internship Program in New York, NY. This program offers real, on-the-job work experience and the opportunity to work on a variety of projects within our scrum teams. As an intern, you will gain valuable skills and experience that will help accelerate your studies and future career.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop applications as part of a scrum team.
- Learn technical skills, write code, conduct code reviews, and write unit tests.
- Partner with Product Managers, Senior Engineers, and Application Architects to conceptualize and build new products.
- Participate in social activities, community service events, and projects with other interns.
Internship Project Areas
Internship projects may include:
- Machine learning
- Big data
- Native mobile applications
- Backend services
- Full stack web applications
- UX/UI focused development
You will work across our software products, such as Spring Cloud and Webflux for reactive Java services, or Node.js driving React web applications and various microservice architectures.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another technical field.
- Graduation date between December 2025 and June 2026.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in developing products or projects in an academic, professional, or personal setting.
- Some entry-level software development, design, or creative experience.
- Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with languages or applications such as Java, JavaScript, C#, Python, Rust, Go, Kotlin, Node.js.
