Job Description
The New York Mets are seeking a Data Scientist to join their Baseball Analytics team. This role involves building, testing, and presenting statistical models that inform decision-making across all facets of Baseball Operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in complex statistics and data analytics, with the ability to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop statistical models to address a variety of baseball-related questions impacting the organization's operations.
- Interpret data and report conclusions drawn from analyses.
- Present model outputs effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate with the Baseball Analytics team and other Baseball Operations personnel to understand research project parameters.
- Provide guidance to the Baseball Systems team on presenting model results.
- Evaluate new data sources and technologies for their validity and usefulness.
- Consistently analyze research in analytics to improve modeling work.
Qualifications
- Master's and/or Bachelor's degree in statistics or a related field.
- Professional experience in a quantitative position is a plus.
- Strong proficiency in R, Python, or similar programming languages, as well as SQL.
- Basic knowledge of data engineering and front-end development is a plus.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and manage large-scale projects with minimal oversight.
