Lead Backend Engineer (Python/Django)

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Python/Django developer to join our team in the Netherlands. This role is based in Amsterdam with a hybrid work policy requiring 3 days per week in the office. We offer relocation support and visa sponsorship if needed.

Responsibilities

Take ownership and lead the effort for (re)building and maintaining the Django backend.
Collaborate with the development team to design and implement new features.
Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code.
Troubleshoot and debug issues as they arise.
Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the Python and Django communities.
Monitor production environments for performance and troubleshoot issues.

About You

5+ years of experience as a backend software developer.
Strong experience with Python and Django.
Experience leading an engineering team, formally or informally.
Proven experience with architecting/designing and refactoring software systems.
Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts.
Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
Experience with Git and version control.
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
Good communication skills.
Strong work ethic and ability to work independently or in a team.

Bonus Points

Experience with JavaScript and web development frameworks such as React or Angular.
Experience with message queues such as RabbitMQ.
Experience with automated testing and CI/CD.
Experience with designing and building REST APIs.
Experience with cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
