About the Role

BILL is seeking a passionate and experienced Manager of Software Engineering to lead our dynamic team in San Jose, California. As a leader in financial automation software for small and midsize businesses, BILL is dedicated to automating the future of finance. In this role, you will be at the forefront of building key components for our risk platform to support our payment business. You will work collaboratively with peer developers, product managers, designers, architects, data scientists, and various business partners to define and develop low-friction, high-precision fraud detection systems that protect our customers and vendors.

Key Responsibilities

• Enhance our platform to protect customers from potential fraud, which is critical to the livelihood of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers, guiding them in best practices and advanced technical concepts.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and develop fraud detection systems.
• Ensure compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
• Drive operational initiatives and lead the development of large-scale, high-volume, high-availability, low-latency systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of experience in software engineering with expertise in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, Elixir).
• Minimum of 2 years of people management experience and 5 years of experience leading operational initiatives.
• Strong understanding of security, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrated experience in the payment industry or in developing fraud detection applications.
• Familiarity with machine learning model integration and data pipeline design.
• Bonus: Experience in front-end or full-stack development.
