This role is crucial in developing the most trustworthy VPN in the world, providing the best user experience to millions of people globally.

About the Role

As a Senior Back-End Engineer, you will work closely with a team of Back-End Engineers and Architects to build resilient, massively-scalable solutions. You will collaborate with client application developers and product management to ensure that the back-end meets critical business and reliability requirements. Your responsibilities will include documenting back-end capabilities and ensuring their proper use, as well as debugging and repairing vital systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop scalable solutions using PHP-based entry-points to a back-end software stack.
• Lead team initiatives from discovery to production.
• Utilize profiling methods and tools to optimize performance.
• Implement solid data modeling and SQL (MySQL preferred).
• Apply caching technologies like Redis.
• Ensure security best practices are followed.
• Develop and consume Web-based APIs using HTTP/REST.
• Understand cryptography concepts such as key exchange and encryption.

Bonus Skills

• Operational experience such as SRE or on-call.
• Experience with Docker or similar containerization technologies.
• Familiarity with metrics graphing/analysis toolkits such as Grafana and OpenTelemetry.
• Experience with Python and/or Rust.
• Experience with OpenAPI specs or other API documentation frameworks.
