Join Proton as a Senior Back-End Engineer (VPN)
At Proton, we are committed to building a better internet where privacy is the default. We are looking for a talented Senior Back-End Engineer to join our VPN team in Barcelona. This role is crucial in developing the most trustworthy VPN in the world, providing the best user experience to millions of people globally.
About the Role
As a Senior Back-End Engineer, you will work closely with a team of Back-End Engineers and Architects to build resilient, massively-scalable solutions. You will collaborate with client application developers and product management to ensure that the back-end meets critical business and reliability requirements. Your responsibilities will include documenting back-end capabilities and ensuring their proper use, as well as debugging and repairing vital systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop scalable solutions using PHP-based entry-points to a back-end software stack.
- Lead team initiatives from discovery to production.
- Utilize profiling methods and tools to optimize performance.
- Implement solid data modeling and SQL (MySQL preferred).
- Apply caching technologies like Redis.
- Ensure security best practices are followed.
- Develop and consume Web-based APIs using HTTP/REST.
- Understand cryptography concepts such as key exchange and encryption.
Bonus Skills
- Operational experience such as SRE or on-call.
- Experience with Docker or similar containerization technologies.
- Familiarity with metrics graphing/analysis toolkits such as Grafana and OpenTelemetry.
- Experience with Python and/or Rust.
- Experience with OpenAPI specs or other API documentation frameworks.
