Senior Backend Developer - Java, Jakarta EE

Job Overview

We are seeking a creative and experienced Senior Backend Developer to join our Platform team at the Dienst ICT of Politie Nederland. You will play a crucial role in the renewal of our national platform, which supports over 50,000 users, including police officers on the street. This platform integrates a wide range of data, such as digital information on reports, fines, convictions, sentences, and offender information. Your contributions will enhance the efficiency of law enforcement processes, making the Netherlands a safer place.

Key Responsibilities

• Platform Development: As a developer in the Platform team, you will tackle complex technical challenges and build the foundation of our applications. Your work will directly impact the productivity of other development teams.
• Technology Stack: You will primarily work with Java and Java Enterprise Edition (JEE), focusing on data storage, authorization, frameworks, and libraries. Your goal is to create maintainable, high-quality software that simplifies complexity for other teams.
• Collaboration: Work closely with fellow backend developers and other team members to achieve team goals. You will also serve as a resource for developers from other teams.
• Hybrid Work Environment: Our team operates in a hybrid model, with two days a week on-site in Utrecht, following the Scrum methodology.

Work Environment

You will be part of the Productiehuis of the Dienst ICT, where multidisciplinary DevOps teams rapidly and flexibly develop new functionalities for operational police services. The Platform team, part of the Programma Vernieuwend Registreren (PVR), consists of 15 dedicated and knowledgeable tech enthusiasts. We embrace new technologies and occasionally require work outside regular hours, as police work is a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications

• Education: HBO level education in ICT, ICT and business, or a related field.
• Experience: Proven experience as a backend developer with extensive knowledge of Java and object-oriented programming.
• Technical Skills: Experience with Apache Maven, web services (REST and SOAP), and preferably Java Enterprise Edition (JEE), Mockito, Oracle WebLogic, and WLST.
• Personal Attributes: You are an IT professional with a passion for complex technical challenges, creative problem-solving, and a forward-thinking approach. You thrive in a team environment and adapt easily to changing situations.

What We Offer

• Location: Utrecht
• Employment Type: Full-time (32 to 36 hours per week)
• Salary: A gross monthly salary ranging from €3,832 to €5,669 (scale 11 Bbp) based on a 36-hour workweek.
