Senior Backend Engineer (Go, Remote)

Job Overview

Openly is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our core team responsible for building the backend of our innovative insurance platform. This role is pivotal in designing, building, testing, and maintaining the services and technology that power our insurance offerings and enhance customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop core systems and create APIs that deliver exceptional user experiences.
• Build and Enhance internal tooling and APIs to streamline business and engineering processes, making them more efficient and secure.
• Implement Systemic Changes to align existing systems with current architectural goals.
• Integrate with external services for managing payments, documents, and claims.
• Source Real-Time Data by integrating with data providers to gather information on property characteristics and risk profiles.
• Provide Expertise and Mentorship to team members, supporting their growth and development.
• Engage in Architectural Discussions and contribute to decisions on microservices vs. monoliths, deployment techniques, and technology policies.
• Participate in Agile Practices including daily stand-ups, weekly 1:1s, and biweekly retrospectives.

• Research/Data Science: R, ArcGIS, H2O, Python
• Infrastructure: Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Cloud Build, CloudSQL), managed with Terraform
• Tools: GitHub for code hosting, CircleCI for CI/CD pipelines, Slack, Zoom, Donut for remote work

Requirements

• Experience: At least 4 years of professional experience in developing backend web-stack applications.
• Proficiency in Go: Professional experience using Go is required, as part of the interview process includes a coding challenge in Go.
• Track Record: Demonstrated ability to improve business-critical systems in terms of stability, performance, and scalability.
• System Delivery: Proven ability to deliver complete systems from start to finish with minimal supervision.
• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary Range: $145,600—$218,400 USD annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
