Squarespace is seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer with expertise in Go and Java to join our dynamic engineering team in Aveiro, Portugal. This role is pivotal in developing our Bio Sites and Unfold offerings, which empower creators and businesses to share their stories and content beautifully and effectively.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be part of a distributed team that collaborates across various departments and products. Your primary focus will be on architecture, performance, and scalability, ensuring a seamless experience for our users. You will be actively involved in the end-to-end development of multiple components and contribute to the long-term vision of Squarespace in the social space.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and Build: Develop new features for Squarespace's social space products.
• Leadership: Take a lead role in providing a robust platform alongside other engineers.
• Collaboration: Work closely with product, design, analytics, and customer operations teams to understand the purpose behind the features we build.
• Code Quality: Enhance the existing codebase by promoting thoughtful design patterns and disciplined software engineering practices, including automated testing and code reviews.
• Performance Optimization: Scale and improve the performance of applications and databases.
• Project Management: Manage engineering workstreams to accelerate our velocity and support stakeholders.
• Mentorship: Actively contribute to team processes and mentor peers as we continue to grow.

Who We're Looking For

• Experience: 5+ years in application development using Go, Java, or other object-oriented languages.
• Database Skills: 2+ years of experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
• Technical Foundation: Strong foundation in computer science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design practices.
• Code Quality: Commitment to creating readable code and writing clear technical documentation.
• Education: Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
