Senior Software Engineer/SRE - Public Cloud Solutions

About the Role

Join Bloomberg's Public Cloud Solutions team as a Senior Software Engineer/SRE, where you will play a pivotal role in driving cloud adoption at an enterprise scale. As part of the Public Cloud Engineering department, you will collaborate closely with application SRE teams to ensure that cloud best practices and governance principles are applied effectively. Our solutions span a wide range of use cases across multiple cloud service providers, focusing on seamless and repeatable infrastructure provisioning using infrastructure-as-code patterns.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop Self-Serve Tools: Provide development teams with tools to provision infrastructure, deploy/manage applications, and run their operational environments.
• Design Scalable Solutions: Architect cloud-based solutions across multiple providers to modernize Bloomberg's ecosystem.
• Implement Best Practices: Use industry-standard processes for public cloud infrastructure.
• Automate Infrastructure: Utilize tools like Terraform to provision and manage infrastructure in a repeatable and automated manner.
• Collaborate Across Teams: Work with development and infrastructure teams to evolve legacy systems with modern, cloud-native design patterns.

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of programming experience with an object-oriented language (Python or Shell Scripting).
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Experience with highly available, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
• Proficiency with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Strong understanding of cloud-based workload administration and security.
• Experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code.

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise in analyzing and fixing large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep understanding of stability and reliability engineering (SRE).
• Strong Linux systems knowledge.
• Experience with network and application performance analysis using UNIX tools.
• Experience in a multi-cloud environment and with customized Terraform providers.
• Experience in building and managing CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure provisioning.
