Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Job Overview

MongoDB is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join our Cloud Site Reliability Engineering Team in Berlin, Germany. This role is pivotal in designing and building the global infrastructure that supports our cloud services, including MongoDB Atlas, our database as a service offering. As a Senior SRE, you will work on ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our services, which are used by thousands of customers worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Design and Build Infrastructure: Develop the infrastructure for a global cloud service that manages hundreds of thousands of MongoDB clusters, processes billions of metrics daily, and replicates tens of billions of database writes to our backup service.
• Automation and Monitoring: Implement and troubleshoot automation and monitoring solutions that span multiple cloud providers, ensuring seamless global service delivery.
• Performance Optimization: Become an expert in infrastructure performance, optimizing systems from the application level to the firmware.
• Resilience Building: Work towards building resilient systems where operational disruptions are minimized, participating in a weekly on-call rotation to ensure system reliability.
• Infrastructure Improvement: Enhance infrastructure capabilities, focusing on cost, simplicity, and maintainability.

Requirements

• Experience running mission-critical services at scale.
• Understanding of information security issues.
• Experience with Linux environments and running critical production systems.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language beyond basic scripting.
• Solid understanding of web and network protocols and standards (HTTP, TLS, DNS, etc.).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Experience in writing automation tools and a strong desire to "automate all the things".

Nice to Haves

• Experience building large applications from scratch with CI/CD infrastructure.
• Knowledge in networking, security, hardware, or OS performance tuning.
• Experience with major cloud providers (AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure).
• Experience managing Kubernetes clusters or other container orchestration infrastructures.
• Experience with observability of large-scale distributed systems.
