Join Bloomberg as a Senior Software Engineer on our API Platform team. Our mission is to offer data and services over high-quality APIs to our customers. The API Platform team supports hundreds of API products that unlock financial data for clients across the global capital markets. Our engineers are responsible for the end-to-end developer experience for both our peers on Bloomberg API product teams that develop Bloomberg APIs and the technologists in Bloomberg client firms that consume them.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and own critical features and components of the API Platform.
- Improve user experience by developing new user-facing features and be part of the full development life cycle, from back-end services to front-end development.
- Build efficient and reusable UI components.
- Collaborate within an Agile, multi-disciplinary, fast-paced team.
- Communicate and interact with product managers and end-users.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience working with an object-oriented programming language.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a similar field of study, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience with technologies such as ReactJS and Python.
- Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to adapt to challenges.
- Experience using PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
- Ability to communicate and present product features and best practices to large audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with OpenAPI and GraphQL.
- Experience with standard developer tools like Docker and Jenkins.
- Experience architecting and building self-service and developer workflow tools.
- Experience with distributed systems architecture and system design.
About the Team
The API Platform team builds software that enables engineering groups to offer high-quality APIs to external as well as internal customers using open technologies and standards, specifically with OpenAPI and GraphQL. As a strategic part of Bloomberg connectivity infrastructure, we aim for a world-class user experience managing the full API lifecycle. We also build and maintain the API Gateway infrastructure that handles a few hundred million API requests per day.
We develop our software using a combination of open source, third-party, and in-house technologies. As engineers, we try to balance using the best technology fit to solve a problem while managing the risk of using exploratory technologies. The problem domains we regularly encounter are in the realm of User Experience, Distributed Systems, and Service-oriented architectures.
