Specialist Application Engineer (PHP, Golang)

About the Role

Waystar is seeking a Specialist Application Engineer with expertise in PHP and Golang to join our FinTech team. This team is responsible for building and managing real-time APIs for our partners and payment processing vendors. You will also work on core system logic for payment data integration with banking systems and develop internal tools for merchant onboarding and payment exception handling.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Solutions: Propose technical solutions to the Manager of Application Engineering.
• Development: Design, develop, test, and implement improvements or new features into the Waystar website and core processing application.
• Application Development: Develop and augment applications based on functional and technical specifications.
• Coding Standards: Adhere to Waystar coding standards and propose amendments when necessary.
• Testing: Conduct unit tests on all changes and collaborate with business and technology owners to ensure solutions meet business requirements.
• Communication: Communicate development progress daily to senior-level team members.
• Issue Resolution: Assist the Client Success department in resolving production process issues.
• QA Support: Participate in the QA process and provide instructions for deploying code changes.
• Collaboration: Work with various departments to design and implement enhancements to the existing web application, including SQL table and stored procedure design.
• Optimization: Identify areas for refactoring, optimization, or improved technology solutions.

Required Skills

• Experience with statically typed/compiled languages (C#, Java, C, Go).
• Experience with dynamically typed/interpreted languages (JavaScript, Python, PHP).
• Proficiency in relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Familiarity with cloud technologies (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
• Experience with version control systems (Git).
• Strong understanding of unit and integration testing methodologies.
• Ability to build highly scalable software solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change.

Preferred Skills

• Experience scaling real-time high availability APIs.
• Experience integrating with payment gateways and processors (e.g., Stripe, Elavon).
• Understanding of finance and banking processes (merchant accounts, ACH, settlement).
