Staff Software Engineer, Fullstack (Onchain Payments)

Job Overview

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Fullstack to lead the development of our new Onchain Payments initiative. This role involves both 0-1 product development and enhancing existing products like Coinbase Commerce. You will be at the forefront of replacing traditional payment systems with crypto rails, leveraging Coinbase's expertise in onchain development.

Key Responsibilities

• Product Development: Lead the design and development of a secure, high-performance product using TypeScript, Go, and Solidity.
• Prototyping: Rapidly prototype user flows to gain market feedback and adjust accordingly.
• Integration: Work with existing Coinbase products such as Smart Wallet, Commerce, and Platform APIs.
• Protocol Design: Design and implement a novel open-source web3 payment protocol using Solidity.
• Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, designers, and other cross-functional partners to find product market fit.
• Codebase Management: Maintain and improve upon the existing legacy codebase of Coinbase Commerce.
• Performance Optimization: Optimize frontend and backend performance for fast transaction processing and smooth UI interactions.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team and contribute to the overall technical direction of Coinbase.

Qualifications

• Experience: 8+ years in software development with a strong focus on fullstack development; 2+ years in a leadership position at a crypto start-up is a plus.
• Technical Skills: Mastery of Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Solidity; familiarity with Ruby is a plus.
• Blockchain Expertise: Deep understanding of Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains and experience with developing smart contracts.
• Frontend Development: Strong expertise in frontend development using modern frameworks like React, Next.js, and Angular.
• System Architecture: Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and event-driven architectures.
• DevOps: Experience with developer operations, including Cloud providers such as AWS and containerization technologies such as Kubernetes.
• Security: Deep understanding of web security best practices and experience with implementing secure coding practices for financial systems.
• Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Salary

The target annual salary for this position ranges from $211,650 to $249,000 USD, depending on your work location and experience.
