About the Role
Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Consumer Products team. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our retail app remains the easiest-to-use and fastest experience for accessing cryptocurrency. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will balance the role of an individual contributor while also anchoring new projects, leading technical direction, and mentoring other engineers on the team.
Responsibilities
- Architect and Develop Distributed Systems: You will be responsible for designing and developing distributed systems that are scalable and reliable.
- Provide Technical Structure: Work closely with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps and provide technical structure to teams.
- Project Management: Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables with your technical expertise.
- Mentorship: Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding standards.
- Infrastructure Design: Design and implement foundational infrastructure components used by every engineering team in production, such as dynamic configuration, secrets storage, and container orchestration.
- Code Quality: Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet the needs of your customers.
Qualifications
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
- Problem Solving: Experienced in architecting and developing solutions to ambiguous problems with significant impact.
- Passion for Open Financial Systems: You’re passionate about building an open financial system that brings the world together.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with rapid growth in a company (from 10 to 100s of engineers).
- Experience with Blockchains (such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
- Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
- Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres.
- Experience building financial, high reliability, or security systems.
