Therefore, BrightUp provides a full suite of financial wellness tools, rooted in a wellness-centric mobile experience. BrightUp’s flagship offering is a low-cost emergency loan securitized by payroll and repaid through paycheck deductions. BrightUp is a seed-stage VC-backed startup that launched with its first client in Spring 2021 and is rapidly growing its team.

Role

As a Tech Lead, you will maintain ownership of the product development process and anything tech-related. We are looking for a generalist who is proficient in the full tech stack, both front and back end. You will be the go-to expert for the team for anything tech-related. You will be the first tech hire that would potentially lead a tech team in the near future once you have proven your capabilities to the team. To be successful in this role, you should have experience with general software practices. You will lead the team in expanding mastery of the business goals of each product request and push back on stakeholders with innovative technology proposals. You will lead the design of current or future architecture of the technology and propose directions that would best meet the needs of business goals. You will maintain the platform which is built in the current technology stack and fix bugs and issues that arise or suggest better solutions. You should be able to work independently and with high autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture of the technology
• Maintain current and future technology architecture
• Promote technical best practices, industry standards, and architectural concepts with engineering teams
• Build and promote high-quality, scalable, full-stack solutions
• Work closely with designers and stakeholders to deliver new feature sets
• Interface with internal stakeholders to brainstorm and prioritize feature development
• Build an engineering team and culture that is in direct alignment with the company values
• Interface with external engineering teams to transition tasks into an internal engineering team
• Identify bugs and issues and fix them

Required Skills

• BSc in Computer Science or relevant field
• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Broad knowledge of relevant modern web technologies e.g., JavaScript/HTML/CSS and cross-browser compatibility
• Deep knowledge of Java
• Strong knowledge of Spring or similar frameworks (Spring Core, Spring Boot, Spring MVC)
• Strong knowledge of Application Servers (Apache Tomcat9, JBoss, Websphere, etc.)
• Strong, in-depth knowledge and experience in Postgres, Oracle, SQL Server, Hibernate, Swagger, Postman, Maven, Jenkins
• Significant experience with AWS, Docker, Python, Bash/Make, and Kubernetes
• High value for peer code and architecture review
• An ability to break complex problems apart to solve them via simple means
• Gets things done; an ability to prioritize, communicate clearly, organize, and follow through on projects independently
• Collaborative and versatile team player who is comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment
• An ability and interest to learn on your feet, and enough experience to (usually) avoid beginner pitfalls
• Strong knowledge of modern JavaScript frameworks (ReactJS or equivalent i.e., Angular/AngularJS)
• Experience with NodeJs, jQuery, and/or several modern JavaScript libraries
• Experience using CSS pre-processors (SASS / LESS / Post-CSS)
• Experience working with Restful web services and JSON
• Experience developing using Agile methodologies
• Experience with task management and version control systems (GIT, JIRA, etc.)
• Strong organizational and presentation skills
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail
• Ability to clearly communicate with other team members and customers
• Must be result-oriented
• Team spirit; strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders
• Passionate about tech and helping Americans to improve their net-worth and self-worth

Nice To Have

• Hands-on experience with Twistlock, CircleCI, ConcourseCI, New Relic, Groovy, Snyk.io, New Relic, Nginx, Couchbase, Vault, Consul, Papertrail, Kubernetes Helm, Prometheus
• Experience with high volume data systems and/or in the financial services industry
• Experience with blockchain technologies
• Previous startup experience or personal entrepreneurial bent
• Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks
• Experience in B2B2C platforms
• Experience in the Fintech space
