About the Role
As a Backend / API Engineer in the Risk team at Stripe, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing systems that manage financial and regulatory risks. You will work closely with various stakeholders across the company, including engineering, product, policy, legal, operations, and data science teams, to ensure that the systems you build are robust and scalable.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Implement Risk Systems: Develop elegant risk-oriented abstractions that other Stripe engineers can use to integrate with our risk management systems.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work with stakeholders across engineering, product, policy, legal, operations, and data science to ensure the systems meet the needs of Risk users.
- Build and Run Systems: Create systems that expose these abstractions in accessible ways to engineering teams across Risk and the rest of Stripe.
- Enhance Safety: Contribute to the overall safety of Stripe by helping other teams think more holistically about how their systems introduce and handle risk.
- Debug and Improve: Debug production issues across services and improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.
Who You Are
- Experience: You have 2+ years of industry experience in shipping high-quality products and building scalable backend infrastructure.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical capability and ability to quickly ramp up in new areas and tackle ambiguous problems.
- High Standards: You hold yourself and others to a high bar when working with production systems.
- Ownership: Take pride in taking ownership and driving projects to business impact.
- Collaboration: Thrive in a collaborative environment.
Work Environment
This role is available either in an office or a remote location (typically, 35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office). Office-assigned employees spend at least 50% of the time in their local office or with users, balancing in-person collaboration with flexibility.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: The annual US base salary range for this role is $136,800 - $205,200.
- Additional Benefits: Equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision benefits, and wellness stipends.
