Backend Engineer - Currency Management

Stripe

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About The Team

The Currency Management team builds products to help our users who have a need to transact in multiple currencies. The portfolio of products which our team is building will allow users to store funds in multiple currencies, exchange funds between currencies and payout those funds to destinations all across the globe.

We support some of the largest businesses running on Stripe today and are building for the next generation. We’re shipping new APIs and products to power the future of Stripe, expanding our existing capabilities to new markets and re-engineering for increased scale and stability.

Our team collaborates across North America and EMEA with primary locations in Dublin and London.

What You’ll Do

As a backend engineer, you’ll design, build and operate APIs, features and services. You’ll work within a team of engineers and collaborate with cross-functional partners to scope new products, support users and ship high quality products.

Responsibilities

  • Scope and lead technical projects, laying the groundwork for our products to iteratively evolve and scale.
  • Design, build, expand and maintain APIs and services.
  • Support our users and keep our systems reliable and performant.
  • Align our technical decisions with Stripe’s broad strategic initiatives, while also advocating for needs specific to emerging new businesses.
  • Work with engineers across the company to understand when existing infrastructure can be leveraged vs. when building a bespoke solution is prudent.
  • Develop and execute against both short and long-term roadmaps. Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation.
  • Produce high level internal and external documentation.
  • Mentor and provide support to other team members.

Who You Are

The Currency Management team is looking for a highly motivated engineer to support our merchants' ability to transact globally. This will involve solving complex problems related to foreign exchange, cross-border money movement, and much more! We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum Requirements

  • Have a strong technical background, with 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • A passion for designing and delivering amazing full-stack product experiences - backend and frontend.
  • Experience building and operating highly reliable services.
  • Work well cross-functionally and earn trust from co-workers at all levels.
  • Hold yourself and others to a high bar when working with production systems.
  • Take pride in ownership and driving projects to business impact.
  • Solve problems autonomously; ability to research a technical or product domain and apply your knowledge when designing and scoping projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have direct experience with foreign exchange trading products or systems.
  • Have experience with financial product companies and/or an interest in financial products and markets.

Hybrid Work at Stripe

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

Pay and Benefits

The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is €81,600 - €156,000. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Specific benefits and details about what compensation is included in the salary range listed above will vary depending on the applicant’s location and can be discussed in more detail during the interview process. Benefits/additional compensation for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; retirement plans; health benefits; and wellness stipends.
