Lead Software Engineer – Back End (FinTech)

About the Role

Join Agoda as a Lead Software Engineer – Back End (FinTech) and be part of a dynamic team that is at the forefront of financial technology innovation. Based in Bangkok, this role offers relocation support for the right candidate. You will be instrumental in developing robust backend systems and architecting scalable data pipelines that support complex data collection, processing, and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Full Product Lifecycle Ownership: Engage in all stages of the product lifecycle, from gathering business requirements to technology selection, coding standards, agile development, testing, and continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
• Platform Development: Design, develop, and maintain platforms and data pipelines across the fintech domain.
• System Performance Optimization: Build systems that are stable, scalable, and highly performant to meet the dynamic demands of the financial landscape.
• Mentorship: Write high-quality code and mentor team members to do the same.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with diverse teams to drive forward product and technology goals.
• Recruitment and Onboarding: Play a pivotal role in recruiting and onboarding exceptional talent.

What You’ll Need

• Experience: 10+ years of experience with strong proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Scala, or C#.
• Big Data Technologies: Experience with Hadoop, real-time processing frameworks like Apache Spark, and advanced knowledge of SQL and data architecture.
• Agile Methodologies: Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Operational Excellence: Deep understanding of metrics, alarms, and dashboards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a modern FinTech or Payments organization.
• Domain knowledge in financial reconciliation, financial reporting, tax, payout methods like virtual credit cards, or customer payments.
• Hands-on experience with technologies like Spark for data processing, ETLs for data pipelines, and queueing systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Experience with core engineering infrastructure tools like GitLab for source control and Continuous Integration, Kubernetes.
• Experience in leading projects, initiatives, and/or teams, with full ownership of the systems involved.
