About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and talented individual to join our expert team of engineers and researchers at Porsche AG. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the future of automotive user interfaces through a master thesis project. You will be responsible for developing a context-aware in-car recommender system that predicts user interface interactions based on driving context.

Motivation

The next generation of automotive user interface (UI) systems requires a profound understanding of user interface display and operating behavior. By leveraging data from sensors and external APIs, we aim to optimize the user interface for a more performant driver experience. A key aspect of this project is predicting the next UI interaction based on the driving context.

Objective

The master thesis aims to develop a recommender system that recognizes operating patterns for classified display and control sequences using a large naturalistic driving data set of vehicle bus information.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct research on the state of the art in Deep Learning (LSTM, CNN architectures), Time Series Classification and Prediction, and Representation Learning for detecting user interaction patterns.
• Develop exploratory and predictive machine learning models for structural user interaction pattern recognition.
• Perform feature engineering and fuse high-dimensional multivariate time series data from continuous, categorical, and textual input variables.
• Evaluate models regarding statistical efficiency, technological feasibility, and prediction quality.
• Analyze applied algorithms under human-computer interaction aspects.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in engineering or natural sciences (e.g., computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering) with a focus on machine learning, data science, or information technology.
• Strong knowledge in Machine Learning, particularly with Python and deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Experience in handling large data sets and implementing prototypical ML and UI applications.
• Excellent programming skills in Python.
• Very good written and spoken English.
• Passion for learning and applying new programming languages and technology concepts.
• Analytical thinking, structured and independent working style, creativity, and motivation to grow with challenges.

Duration

This master thesis project is expected to last for 6 months.
