Principal Backend Engineer - Product
Overview
Join Luma AI as a Principal Backend Engineer, where you will be at the forefront of building generative AI inference infrastructure at an unprecedented scale. This role involves taking ownership of Luma’s REST APIs and backend systems, ensuring they are robust, reliable, and scalable. You will work closely with a dynamic team to deliver cutting-edge products while maintaining high engineering standards.
Responsibilities
- Design and Build Platforms: Develop both development and production platforms that power new products, ensuring reliability and security at scale.
- Feature Development: Own the development of new user-facing generative AI features and product experiences from start to finish.
- Collaboration: Partner with researchers, engineers, product managers, and designers to bring innovative features and research capabilities to life.
- Engineering Productivity: Enhance engineering productivity by providing excellent tooling and systems to your fellow engineers.
- System Reliability: Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to critical incidents, ensuring the reliability of the systems you build.
Experience and Skills
- Experience: Over 10 years of engineering experience in various tech environments, particularly in product-driven companies.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Python and a deep understanding of end-to-end backend systems, databases, and authorization.
- Front-End Skills: Experience with JavaScript and React for front-end development.
- Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to learn and work across the stack, with a willingness to adapt to new technologies.
- Startup Experience: Previous experience in startup environments, either as a founder or an early-stage engineer.
- API Experience: Experience working with user-facing APIs.
Compensation
- Salary Range: $180,000 - $250,000 per year, depending on experience and location.

This position is based in Palo Alto, California, and requires on-site work.
