Senior Backend Engineer - Data Gateway (Kotlin, Spring, AWS)

About the Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Bettermile, you will be a key player in the development of our Data Gateway components, which are crucial for supporting last-mile delivery drivers across Europe and North America. You will work on core data integration systems, manage and enhance our data I/O systems, and collaborate with various teams to streamline data processes. Your role will involve architectural refactoring and problem-solving with a data-centric approach. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to mentor other engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Development of Data Gateway Components: Support last-mile delivery drivers by developing and enhancing data gateway components.
• Core Data Integration Systems: Manage and enhance core data I/O systems crucial to Bettermile's operations.
• Collaboration Across Teams: Work closely with the Data Gateway team and other teams within the Better Route product tribe.
• Architectural Refactoring: Contribute to the ongoing refactoring of our microservice architecture.
• Problem-Solving with a Data Focus: Optimize workflows and boost efficiency with a data-centric approach.
• Mentorship: Mentor other engineers and contribute to their professional growth.

What We Are Looking For

• JVM Expertise: Strong knowledge of JVM languages, with a preference for Kotlin.
• Frameworks & Databases: Proficiency in the Spring framework and experience with relational databases like Postgres or MySQL.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with cloud platforms, familiarity with AWS CDK or Pulumi is a bonus.
• Event-Driven Design: Experience with event-driven design.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to effectively engage with stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Curiosity about Logistics: Interest in logistics fundamentals.
• "You Build It, You Run It" Approach: Experience in applying this approach at scale.
• Test-Driven Development (TDD): Applying TDD in daily work.
