Role Overview
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Hunt team, you will be instrumental in developing features for the onX Hunt application. This role involves building scalable services, writing various types of tests, participating in architectural decisions, and collaborating effectively with team members. You will have ownership and autonomy to create, develop, and analyze your work in alignment with company objectives.
Responsibilities
- Build scalable services to support new features and products for the onX suite of apps.
- Write unit, integration, and acceptance tests.
- Participate in architectural decisions involving our services.
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- Lead by example and embody our company values.
- Leverage and extend existing onX services.
- Participate in an on-call schedule to support backend services after work hours.
What You'll Bring
- Minimum of eight years of professional software development experience.
- At least three years focused on API development.
- Experience building and debugging distributed, scalable microservices architecture.
- Strong foundation in computer science.
- Proficiency in modern API and systems design and development.
- Experience with Elixir or other functional programming languages is a plus.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform.
Location
This position offers a flexible workplace with options to work remotely, from corporate offices in Missoula and Bozeman, Montana, or from various "Basecamps" and "Connection Hubs" across the US.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $174,000, based on experience and qualifications. Additionally, full-time employees are eligible for equity, a potential annual bonus based on company performance, and a comprehensive benefits package.
