About the Role
Flexport is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Trade Services team in Amsterdam, focusing on climate and sustainability initiatives. This role is part of Flexport.org, our dedicated sustainability and social impact team. You will be instrumental in developing software solutions that support climate programs and humanitarian aid, leveraging Flexport’s platform to make a real-world impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Design and Development: You will lead the design and development of complex software systems, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and performant.
- Build Full Stack Products: Develop new products that power Flexport.org initiatives, such as sustainable routing optimization within our freight network.
- Support Existing Products: Maintain and enhance existing products and integrations, such as our freight emissions calculator and fund management system.
- Collaborate with Business Partners: Work closely with business partners to translate complex business problems into elegant technical solutions.
- Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices and coding standards.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience: 5+ years of software development experience with a strong engineering background.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, Ruby, Java, and RDBMS (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
- Soft Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Problem Solving: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Passion for Sustainability: A passion for sustainability and/or humanitarian aid.
Our Technology Stack
- Frontend: React for views, GraphQL/Relay for data fetching, Jest for testing.
- Backend: Rails on AWS and Postgres RDS, with staging server infrastructure in Python.
- Tools: Continuous releases integrated with Buildkite and Github.
