Senior Web3 Backend Engineer (Rust)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Web3 Backend Engineer with expertise in Rust to join our fully remote team at CoW Protocol. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a crucial role in developing the next generation of decentralized trading protocols. This position is ideal for an enthusiastic, self-motivated engineer who is passionate about blockchain technology and decentralized finance (DeFi).

Responsibilities

• Architect and Design: Lead the architecture and design of our off-chain services, including the core auction protocol and orderbook, to support feature growth and adapt to the rapidly changing blockchain environment.
• Backend Development: Focus on writing concurrent backend systems in Rust, while also interacting with our smart contracts written in Solidity.
• Collaboration: Work closely with researchers and the product team to ship features and develop innovative solutions for complex technical challenges.
• Code Quality: Deliver high-quality code from concept to production, including state-of-the-art monitoring of our production systems.
• Maintenance and Improvement: Help maintain and improve the reliability of existing features and participate in the on-call rotation.
• Code Reviews: Provide thoughtful and in-depth code reviews of your colleagues’ contributions to our open-source codebase.

• Backend Code: Rust, Tokio, Cargo, Git
• Infrastructure: Pulumi, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Grafana, Prometheus, Elasticsearch
• Other Codebases: Typescript, Python, Solidity

Who You Are

• You have at least 2 years of production experience with Rust (experience with C++ is a bonus).
• You possess excellent computer science, programming, and algorithmic skills.
• You have experience in web3, ideally with DeFi and the Ethereum blockchain.
• You are experienced in operating, maintaining, and architecting complex software systems.
• You care deeply about the quality, readability, observability, and testability of your code.
• You proactively give technical direction to improve performance, prevent issues, optimize data usage, and refactor the codebase.
• You are a team player, strong communicator, and gladly share your expertise with others.
• You collaborate effectively with a remote-first team on a large, open-source codebase.
• Ideally, you are someone senior who can mentor colleagues and provide direction.
• You are excited to explore and gain experience with Ethereum.
