Join Amazon's Text-to-Speech on Device team, where we are responsible for developing AI-based voice models that operate locally on devices. This role requires a unique blend of skills in device integration, voice generation technologies, and machine learning. We deliver solutions for a variety of customers, including offline solutions for Alexa, automotive clients, and accessibility voices for visually impaired users. Our models are designed to work with limited hardware resources, making them efficient and effective.

Key Responsibilities

As a Software Development Engineer, you will:

• Collaborate with the team on the end-to-end development of machine learning models for speech generation.
• Integrate ML speech generation models with embedded systems, both Amazon-owned and third-party.
• Work closely with science teams to transition state-of-the-art TTS models from research to production.
• Utilize new technologies, including AWS services, to enhance our solutions.
• Continuously learn and adapt to new challenges, as our solutions are complex and intriguing.
• Partner with other Amazon teams to build solutions that add value for them and their customers.
• Solve complex problems with clean, practical code.
• Design, build, and deploy scalable and robust systems and tools.

About the Team

The TTS on Device team focuses on delivering low-footprint AI models for speech generation that can operate locally on devices such as Android and FireOS. These models require significantly less computational power than cloud-hosted models. We work directly with device development teams and scientists to provide the best possible experience for our customers.

Basic Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (C++, Java, Python, etc.).
• Strong understanding of machine learning models and the latest developments in the field.
• Solid knowledge of computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing for mobile platforms (Android/FireOS, ARM).
• Familiarity with CI/CD systems and build automation.
• Knowledge and experience with various processes in the full software development lifecycle (coding standards, code reviews, source control, build systems, integration and deployment, maintenance, updates, etc.).
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Ruby, Perl).
• Experience with Linux/Unix systems and Bash scripting.
