Amazon

Job Description

About Us

Amazon SDO Privacy engineering operates in Austin, TX, USA, and in Iași or Bucharest, Romania. Our mission is to develop services that enable every service Amazon operates with personal data to satisfy Amazon customers' privacy rights. We work backward from customers and global privacy regulations, think long-term, and propose solutions that ensure Amazon's privacy compliance. Our external customers are worldwide customers of Amazon Retail, Amazon B2B services (e.g., Seller Central, App/Skill Developers), and Amazon subsidiaries. Our internal customers are services within Amazon that operate with personal data, legal representatives, and customer service agents.

What You Will Do

You will design, implement, and maintain solutions that handle a large volume of traffic, are highly available, aiming for 100% uptime. Your solutions will integrate with existing Amazon services and provide customer-facing functionalities on Amazon customer-facing sites. You will work with customers and colleagues to translate your ideas into pragmatic solutions focusing on operational excellence, security compliance, and technical excellence. You will be part of a team that focuses on your development and contribute to your colleagues' development by enhancing their technical knowledge and continuously insisting on the highest standards. You will own complex models that will contribute to Amazon's mission and represent them in discussions with Distinguished/Principal Engineers at Amazon.

The solutions you provide will operate on AWS Cloud infrastructure and you will create them by leveraging AWS services such as AWS CDK, DynamoDB, S3, AWS Lambda, AWS Step Functions, API Gateway, EFS, Amazon OpenSearch, ECS, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, AWS SDK. You will develop both internal and external customer interfaces using React or Angular libraries or Amazon internal JavaScript libraries. You will become proficient in multiple programming languages, using Java along with Python and Ruby. You will become skilled with design patterns such as Builder, Singleton, Interpreter, Adapter, Decorator, Proxy, and more, depending on the technical problem we will solve.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and operate key system products and services
  • Ensure project alignment with organizational and existing service architectures
  • Maintain and promote a high level of operational and security excellence
  • Work in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high-quality services

Flexible Schedule

At Amazon, we believe that achieving the right balance between personal and professional life is key to a successful and fulfilling life. Our teams encourage flexible working schedules and offer a balance between working from home (two days a week combined with working from our offices in Iași for three days a week). This way, you will have the opportunity to benefit from our team's meetings and events. You will join the weekly on-call rotation team and once every 8 weeks, you will manage any high-severity alarms generated by our service, which will degrade service quality or have a direct impact on our customers.

Mentorship/Career Advancement

As a software engineer, you will continue to learn, be involved in the hiring process, contribute to your colleagues' development as a mentor, and be an onboarding buddy for new joiners. You will have access to our mentorship program where you can find a tenured Amazonian to guide and mentor you in developing the areas you want to focus on. You will own your career development in partnership with the Software Development Manager and partner to find the right balance between achieving results and demonstrating that you can operate at the next level.
