Software Engineer - Production Practices

About the Role

Datadog is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Production Practices team in Lisbon. This team is part of our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) organization and is responsible for ensuring production readiness and supporting engineers in implementing best practices for reliability and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Steward Production Readiness: Set the technical direction for reliable and sustainable production practices.
• Readiness Reviews: Perform readiness reviews for new services launching to production and automate these processes.
• Best Practices Implementation: Work with teams across Datadog to implement best practices for resilience and operational excellence, including running training workshops and writing reliability bulletins.
• Advocate for Engineers: Identify sources of friction for engineers running services in production and build tools to support healthy production practices.
• Collaborate on Reliability: Work with infrastructure teams to improve the developer experience and lower the burden of launching services.
• Chaos Engineering: Collaborate with the Chaos Engineering team on large-scale game days to inject faults into our stack and follow up with engineering teams to ensure risks are identified and fixes are adopted.

Who You Are

• Experience: Around 5 years of experience working with distributed systems.
• Systems Thinking: Strong systems thinking and familiarity with common production patterns.
• Training and Documentation: Interest in training and helping upskill others, with experience in teaching or writing developer documentation.
• Coding Skills: Proficient in Go and/or Python, with a focus on automating manual processes.
• Communication: Strong empathy, collaboration, and communication skills in English.
• Adaptability: Willingness to jump into new codebases and unknown systems quickly.
