Senior Software Engineer - Language Tools

About the Role

The Language Tools team at Datadog is pivotal in enabling hundreds of backend engineers to build, test, and package secure, quality code. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for owning projects from start to finish, both greenfield and brownfield. You will gain a first-hand understanding of what Datadog developers need and inform our roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

• Invent and Develop Tools: Create simpler, faster, more reliable, and efficient build, test, and packaging tools.
• CI Management: Treat CI like SREs treat production, ensuring pipelines are green and fast.
• Complex Migrations: Prepare, run, and complete complex migrations.
• Promote Best Practices: Advocate for coding best practices company-wide, including linting, formatting, and type checking.
• Open Source Engagement: Engage with the open source community, influencing and contributing to projects like Bazel.

Who You Are

• Expertise: You are an expert in one or more of the languages or build systems used at Datadog.
• Well-Rounded Engineer: You have a broad understanding of various software projects built, tested, and packaged with our tools.
• Careful and Fearless: You understand the impact of changes on the velocity of hundreds of engineers and are willing to take necessary risks.
• User-Focused: You are dedicated to improving the usability of tools for Datadog engineers.
• Experience with Large Codebases: Ideally, you have experience working with large codebases.
