About the Role
We are looking for an experienced data engineer to join our team. Big Cartel is a mature company with a comparatively immature data stack. We need someone with a track record of architecting data pipelines to help us build a robust reporting infrastructure that can support our business needs. This person should have extremely strong technical skills and be a great peer and collaborator. We need someone who can translate high level requirements into data models and supporting software, tooling, and infrastructure. We're primarily a Ruby/Rails shop. Past experience with Rails is a plus but not a hard requirement. Ideal candidates are eager to not only build reporting around existing data but are eager to dive into codebases and help implement new data collection where it doesn't currently exist. Initial work will primarily be to support business users in decision making but future efforts around customer focused analytics are also being planned.
In this role you will…
- Become a domain expert in Big Cartel’s production data collections
- Build and manage an internal data warehouse for reporting
- Explain and document data warehouse tables
- Translate abstract stakeholder requests into actionable data delivered either realtime or on a schedule
- Clean missing/unreliable data to minimize reporting gotchas
- Implement platform features (with an emphasis on data/analytics) as a member of the broader engineering team
