Associate Software Engineer

Job Summary

Join Walgreens as an Associate Software Engineer and contribute to the development of our digital and online platforms. This role involves implementing activities that impact components and processes within specified functional areas in an Agile environment. You will work on short-term assignments requiring independent judgment and operate within defined procedures to provide desired functionality to digital solutions, products, and programs.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform daily operational activities that influence mid-level components and processes of the technology function, including writing code and scripts for software products and programs.
• Participate in the improvement and monitoring of deployment operations on pre-release, upgrades, and current versions of software.
• Evaluate compatibility of programs with existing communications hardware and software features.
• Develop protocols to support established standards and improve operation and monitoring of standard and advanced features.
• Participate in the development of processes and interface requirements, data development, and definition of acceptance criteria.
• Create, develop, and maintain software code in an agile environment.
• Analyze and review system requirements using design documents to understand the functionality of new or enhanced applications.
• Participate in design, architecture, and build phases to produce high-quality deliverables.
• Provide recommendations on product and development environment improvements.
• Maintain and support existing and develop web-based prototypes, applications, and tools.
• Resolve problems and roadblocks as they occur, preparing accurate documentation and communication to facilitate problem elimination and efficient fixes.
• Coordinate cross-functionally to accomplish activities and interact with internal and external peers and managers to exchange information related to assigned activities.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or a High School Diploma/GED with at least 4 years of experience in Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Knowledge of coding web or mobile applications.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
• Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time for business purposes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in analyzing and reporting data to identify issues, trends, or exceptions.
• Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending strategies to resolve problems.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Ruby.
• Experience with automation software like Chef, Puppet, Terraform, or Ansible.
• Familiarity with container deployments using Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with modern UI frameworks like React and AngularJS.
• Knowledge of server-side relational (Oracle, MySQL) or NoSQL (MongoDB) database technologies.
• Experience in mobile development for iOS (Swift, SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin).
• Experience in building analytics solutions on cloud platforms and using reporting tools like Power BI, Business Objects, Cognos, or Tableau.
