Data Engineer with AWS, Java, and Python

Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate and driven Data Engineer to join our team in Valenzano, Apulia, Italy. As a Data Engineer, you will work on software to store, process, visualize, and make sense of large amounts of data, empowering the quantitative analysis and AI applications at the core of our systems.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with talented colleagues to identify the data-related needs of the company and participate in defining and executing plans to fulfill them.
• Utilize modern tools and data technologies to build insightful, scalable, and robust data solutions. When existing tools fall short, collaborate to build custom solutions.
• Develop innovative solutions to craft and improve datasets and pipelines for a variety of use cases.
• Stay informed on new, relevant technologies and test promising ones to ensure we leverage game-changing opportunities to boost productivity and work enjoyment.

What You Will Need to Succeed

• Passion for writing software and adhering to software engineering best practices.
• Strong programming skills in at least one of Java, Python, or Scala.
• Excitement for solving challenging problems and a rapid learner of new concepts and skills.
• Pragmatic approach to achieving excellence without being obsessive about perfectionism.
• Previous experience as a Data Engineer or Software Engineer.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant field. A PhD is a plus.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with Data Analytics & ML Platforms (e.g., Databricks, SageMaker).
• Experience with messaging and streaming platforms (e.g., Apache Pulsar, Kafka).
• Experience with engineering data pipelines using big data technologies (Hive, Presto, Airflow, Spark, etc.) with large-scale datasets.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud resources (S3, EC2, etc.).
• Familiarity with AI/ML project lifecycle.
