About the Chat Team

The Chat team is a remote, full-stack team of six dedicated engineers, evenly divided between front-end and back-end development. The team uses React and Angular to create intuitive user interfaces, and develops scalable services with Node.js, all operating on an AWS infrastructure. In addition to these talented individuals, the team is supported by a dedicated QA specialist and a Product Manager, ensuring high-quality outputs and clear direction.

Collaboration is at the heart of the Chat team's success, requiring seamless interaction not only within the team but also with peer teams based in the US to align strategies and achieve company-wide goals.

Responsibilities

As an Engineering Manager for this new zero to one product, you will be responsible for:

• Visionary Leadership and Team Building: Assemble and lead a highly skilled team of engineers with expertise in real-time communication technologies. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and openness to embrace the challenges of building a novel chat application.
• Strategic Planning and Execution: Define and execute the product development roadmap from concept to launch, aligning with ClickUp's mission and user needs. Prioritize features and tasks to efficiently manage resources and timelines.
• Technical Excellence and Innovation: Ensure the application sets a benchmark in performance, reliability, and user experience. Drive the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and architectural patterns that facilitate scalability, security, and seamless integration with ClickUp's ecosystem.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, designers, and customer success teams to gather user feedback, understand market demands, and iterate on the product design and functionality. Champion a user-centered design approach.
• Fostering a culture of continuous improvement through code reviews, design discussions, and performance optimization.
• Managing timelines, deliverables, and resource allocation effectively.

Qualities of a Successful Candidate

• Proven experience in managing a team of software engineers and delivering high-quality software products.
• Strong background in full-stack development with hands-on experience in React and Node.js.
• Deep understanding of cloud services, preferably AWS, and best practices in infrastructure management.
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a geographically distributed team.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Superior communication and collaboration abilities to work harmoniously with teams across different time zones.
• Passionate about technology with a constant desire to learn and adapt to new technologies.
