About the Role
Discord is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Manager to lead our Core Product team. This role is pivotal in driving user engagement and enhancing product features across various platforms. You will report directly to the Director of Engineering and play a crucial role in strategic planning and execution.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, UX Research, and Marketing teams to define and execute the team’s vision and roadmap.
- Make sound decisions on resourcing and clearly communicate the rationale to stakeholders.
- Partner with organizational leaders to enhance the engineering department and uphold our workplace philosophy.
- Drive product decisions aligned with company goals, maintaining a high standard for feature quality.
- Utilize your technical expertise to ensure rapid and high-quality delivery by your team.
Ideal Candidate
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering across various platforms (mobile, web, backend).
- 2+ years of experience in an engineering management role, leading teams of 5 or more engineers on user-facing products.
- Strong product sense and a deep understanding of customer needs.
- Goal-oriented, with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
- Experience in growing and mentoring engineering teams.
- Hands-on approach, with a willingness to engage directly with code when necessary.
Bonus Points
- Familiarity with Discord as a user, especially its core features and communication flow.
- Experience with React Native.
