About the Role
Discord is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our Developer Platforms team. This role is pivotal in building and enhancing the development platforms that enable engineers across the company to deliver high-quality software efficiently. You will be instrumental in shaping the direction of the team's work, ensuring it aligns with our vision of a friction-free developer experience.
What You'll Do
- Work closely with customer engineers to deliver a technical roadmap for Discord’s development platforms.
- Collaborate with the Client Developer Platform and Platform-as-a-Service teams to ensure a cohesive developer experience and a clear path to production.
- Enhance our remote cloud development environment, utilizing tools like Coder.
- Provide fast and stable builds across our entire tech stack using tools such as Bazel, Docker, Nix, and Kubernetes.
- Develop core libraries and CLI frameworks that create a unified tooling ecosystem.
- Refine existing build, test, and deploy tools or build them from the ground up.
What You Should Have
- 7+ years of experience in software development with a focus on tooling, infrastructure, and automation.
- Leadership experience in guiding a team of engineers.
- Expertise in cloud-based environments, particularly Google Cloud.
- Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tooling, especially Terraform.
- Extensive experience with CI, build, and deployment technologies.

- Experience with open source software.
- Passion for optimizing development workflows.
- Experience across multiple operating systems (MacOS, Windows, Linux).
- Collaboration with security engineering teams on threat modeling.
