About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer on the API Platform team at Discord, you will be at the heart of Discord's HTTP API layer, handling over 400,000 requests per second and managing tens of thousands of asynchronous jobs. Your work will be crucial in enabling internal developers to deliver new features and ensuring that our users can communicate seamlessly every day.
What You'll Do
- Develop and operate core components of the API.
- Ensure systems are fast, reliable, and efficient to meet the needs of product teams.
- Write code and manage infrastructure, ensuring the reliable operation of critical systems serving millions of users.
- Enable teams to deploy code quickly and safely.
- Collaborate with a passionate team of engineers dedicated to maintaining smooth operations.
What You'll Need
- 5+ years of experience in backend system development.
- Experience scaling distributed systems.
- Experience operating complex services in a production environment.
- Familiarity with open source software and ability to delve into library source codes.
- Ability to make trade-offs to lead projects and ensure progress.
- Passion for improving engineer's lives through infrastructure improvements.
Bonus Points
- Experience with large Python or Rust codebases.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Google Pub/Sub, or message queue systems.
- Knowledge of Python runtime internals or the gevent library.
- Familiarity with Redis, ScyllaDB, or Postgres.
