Job Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an experienced Kernel & Hypervisor Engineer to join the EC2 Accelerated Nitro team. This role is pivotal in developing the foundational layers of the AWS software stack, specifically focusing on the EC2 Nitro Hypervisor. As part of this team, you will have the opportunity to innovate and influence the technological roadmap, working on cutting-edge virtualization technologies and hardware accelerators.
Key Responsibilities
- Software Development Lifecycle: Take end-to-end ownership of the software development lifecycle, including design, testing, and deployment of virtualization components.
- Operational Excellence: Drive improvements in the quality of the hypervisor and instance platforms, ensuring systems are resilient and fault-tolerant.
- Collaboration: Work with global teams across hardware, software, and firmware groups to drive innovative solutions.
- On-call Responsibility: Participate in on-call duties to troubleshoot and resolve issues, ensuring high availability and performance.
A Day in the Life
- Collaborate with your manager and peers to deliver on the roadmap.
- Focus on high-quality delivery and operational excellence.
- Solve complex technical challenges impacting AWS customers.

Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and problem-solving.
- 2+ years of experience in design or architecture of new and existing systems.
- Proficiency in writing clean, optimized, and scalable code using C or Rust.
- 3+ years of experience with Linux command line tools.
- Understanding of operating systems internals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience building complex software systems.
- Experience in embedded firmware development.
- Experience working in the kernel or virtualization space.
- Proficiency in at least one CPU architecture such as x86 or ARM.
