About the Role

As a Systems Development Engineer, you will be part of the Amazon Linux Kernel team, responsible for developing and maintaining automation that ensures the reliable build, test, and deployment of Linux Kernels. You will diagnose kernel issues, adapt upstream changes, and apply them to our builds. Your role will involve working closely with Linux distribution development and the Linux Kernel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain automation to deliver secure, stable, and performant Linux kernel builds.
  • Diagnose Linux Kernel issues and deliver suitable mitigations.
  • Review code from peers and provide feedback.
  • Drive operational improvements and influence the team's development roadmap.

About the Team

The Kernel and Operating System group designs and maintains Amazon's core compute platforms, focusing on EC2, the Elastic Compute Cloud. The team is responsible for tools associated with performance characterization, qualification, build, and deployment of our Linux platforms.

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems, and hands-on systems engineering.
  • 2+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 1+ years of designing or architecting new and existing systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting in a Linux/Unix environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and build processes.
  • Experience building services using AWS products.
  • Previous work on Linux distributions, Linux Kernels, containers, and deployment systems.
