If so, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for highly motivated Systems Development Engineers to join our Managed Operations (MO) team.
About the Role
The AWS Managed Operations (MO) organization, founded in April 2023, aims to reduce operational load and toil through long-term engineering projects. As a Systems Development Engineer, you will balance day-to-day operations of AWS’ software systems with long-term software engineering to reduce operational toil. You will be part of a team that owns the day-to-day operations for AWS Regions, improving availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Spend approximately 50% of your time operating production systems and 50% on long-term improvements to enhance reliability, availability, and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues at all levels, from network to operating systems to software applications.
- Develop software to automate operational tasks and reduce human intervention.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
A Day in the Life
Your week might include:
- Root causing deployment failures and implementing fixes.
- Executing time-critical changes to production systems.
- Developing software to automate repetitive tasks and improve system reliability.

Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in software development or a related field.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, TypeScript, Python, or Ruby.
- Experience operating and troubleshooting reliable, scalable software systems.
- Legal right to work in Ireland.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with high-availability, distributed software applications.
- Strong understanding of network fundamentals and experience with monitoring frameworks.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools.
