Job Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an experienced Kernel/Hypervisor Engineer to join the EC2 Accelerated Nitro team in Berlin, Germany. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on the cutting edge of cloud computing technology, developing the foundational software that powers AWS's EC2 instance families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Software Development Lifecycle: Take end-to-end ownership of the software development lifecycle, including design, testing, and deployment of virtualization components.
  • Operational Excellence: Drive improvements in the quality of the hypervisor and instance platforms, ensuring systems are resilient and fault-tolerant.
  • Technological Roadmap: Influence and contribute to the technological roadmap of the team, working closely with other EC2 teams globally.
  • On-call Responsibility: Participate in on-call duties to root-cause issues and maintain system reliability.

A Day in the Life

  • Collaborate with your manager and other engineers to deliver on the roadmap.
  • Focus on high-quality delivery and operational excellence.
  • Solve technical challenges impacting AWS customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem-solving, and complexity analysis.
  • 2+ years of experience in design or architecture of new and existing systems.
  • Proficiency in writing clean, optimized, and scalable code using C or Rust.
  • 3+ years of experience using the typical Linux command line toolbox.
  • Understanding of operating systems internals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience building complex software systems.
  • 2+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
  • Experience working on the kernel or virtualization space.
  • Proficiency in at least one CPU architecture such as x86 or ARM.
