Job Description
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) is a fast-growing business that provides cost-effective, easy-to-use cloud computing resources to businesses of all sizes around the world. At the Amazon Development Center in Dresden, Germany, we develop and operate Live Migration, which enables seamless migration of EC2 instances between physical hosts, helping our customers maintain their applications' availability and resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, Implement, and Test: You will design, implement, and test new features and enhancements to our Live Migration control plane service in EC2.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to define requirements, priorities, and timelines for feature development and bug fixes.
- Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve issues that arise in our production environment, ensuring that our service is always available and performing optimally.
- Code Reviews: Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to other engineers to ensure that our codebase is maintainable, scalable, and efficient.
- Continuous Improvement: Continuously improve our control plane service by identifying opportunities for automation, optimization, and performance tuning.

We do not split development and operations. As part of this role, you will be part of an on-call rotation. We relentlessly work to deliver the best quality software to avoid getting paged during our off hours, and expect you to do the same.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in software development, with a focus on distributed systems at scale, networking, or infrastructure software.
- Experience operating and supporting production cloud services, including on-call responsibilities.
- Strong programming skills in at least one high-level programming language such as Java, Kotlin, C++, or others.
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems and command-line tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Proficient in at least one scripting language such as Python, Ruby, or similar.
