Job Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Support Engineer to join our Managed Operations team in Berlin, Germany. This role is pivotal in the launch and operation of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a significant development in AWS's utility computing offerings. As a Support Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the high availability and reliability of AWS services such as EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock for EU customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams to influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
- Enhance day-to-day operations, focusing on improving availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
- Participate in "on-call" rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours, ensuring operational excellence.
- Mentor junior engineers, sharing knowledge and expertise to foster professional development.
- Refine documentation, processes, and tools to elevate operational efficiency and set new benchmarks for excellence.
A Day in the Life
Your day will involve addressing and resolving intricate system issues, contributing to the professional development of junior engineers, and refining operational processes. You will play a crucial role in maintaining system resilience and fault tolerance, ensuring a seamless experience for AWS customers.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience maintaining software systems or related fields.
- Proficiency with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog, or Grafana.
- Solid understanding of Linux and networking fundamentals.
- Experience in decomposing complex problems into simple solutions and proactively solving problems before they occur.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with operating services in AWS.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language such as Bash, Python, or Ruby.
- Familiarity across common technology domain areas, such as hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.

Eligibility Requirements
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
