Role Overview
The Data Engineer at Make will play a crucial role in building and maintaining robust data pipelines, ensuring the integrity and quality of our data, and contributing significantly to the design and expansion of our data systems. This position is ideal for professionals at the mid-level to senior stages of their careers, offering a unique opportunity to directly impact our Engineering department's operations and initiatives through close collaboration and targeted data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and Maintain Data Pipelines: Focus on the needs of the Engineering department, ensuring seamless data integration and accessibility to enhance engineering health, productivity, and quality metrics.
- Collaborate with Engineering: Work closely with the Engineering department to understand their data requirements, contributing to decision-making through precise data insights.
- Data Warehouse Management: Maintain our data warehouse, ensuring it meets timely and quality data needs and company-wide requirements.
- Implement DataOps Practices: Advocate for DataOps practices across projects, emphasizing product quality, security, and performance enhancements.
- Enhance Engineering Productivity: Help pinpoint and execute an appropriate engineering productivity framework (such as DORA, SPACE, or similar) to bolster the Engineering department's effectiveness and efficiency.
- Lead Data System Designs: For Senior Data Engineers, lead data system designs and implementations, offering technical guidance and mentorship within the data engineering team and fostering strong collaborative ties with the Engineering department.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience: 3+ years of relevant experience in data engineering.
- Collaboration: Ability to work in collaboration with Engineering departments.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Python, with a track record of deploying high-quality code in production environments.
- Data Modeling: Exceptional data modeling skills and familiarity with various modeling methodologies.
- Business Requirements Translation: Ability to adeptly translate business requirements into existing data architecture, ensuring seamless alignment and integration of business needs with data models.
- SQL and Data Warehouses: Deep understanding of SQL, analytical data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake), and hands-on experience with ETL/ELT best practices.
- Data Workflow Management: Practical knowledge in managing data workflows using tools like Airflow, with a preference for candidates well-versed in AWS cloud services.
- Metrics Formulation: Skills in formulating metrics to assess and enhance system cost efficiency, supporting strategic decision-making and optimizations.
- Master Data Management: Understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) principles, aimed at ensuring data consistency, accuracy, and accountability across shared assets.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the Engineering department and other teams to identify and fulfill data requirements.
