About The Role
The New York Times is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for Mobile Games to lead a dynamic team focused on developing multiplayer puzzle games for iOS and Android platforms. This role is pivotal in collaborating with Product, Design, and Producers to deliver top-tier gaming experiences that engage millions daily.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Bring your expertise in building high-traffic multiplayer games, particularly in the mobile space. Manage a team of 5-8 engineers across various career levels and skill sets, focusing on iOS, Android, and Backend development.
- Team Development: Foster an environment that enhances productivity and collaboration. Develop your team through coaching, mentoring, and providing feedback. Align team members with our strategic goals and create processes that boost developer productivity.
- Collaboration and Strategy: Work closely with product owners, designers, and producers to deliver compelling puzzles and games. Help establish and advocate for engineering best practices and technical strategies involving multiple teams.
How We Work
Our engineering practices emphasize code quality and efficient delivery. We deploy APIs built in Go on AWS, develop iOS apps in Swift, Android apps in Kotlin, and web front-ends in React. As an Engineering Manager, you will guide your team to push code to production regularly while ensuring high standards are maintained.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience managing native mobile engineering teams.
- 3+ years of experience building high-traffic social games or mobile apps with social features.
- 5+ years of experience in complex iOS or Android app development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in building distributed backend systems, especially for multiplayer games.
