Job Overview
Join the Azure Core Linux team at Microsoft as a Senior Software Engineer. Our mission is to empower every Linux developer and operator to innovate and run secure, reliable services at scale. We are looking for an experienced engineer to join the Azure Cloud Consoles team, which includes Azure Serial Console and Azure Cloud Shell. This role is pivotal in making Azure the best platform for running Linux workloads from the command line.
About Azure Cloud Shell
Azure Cloud Shell is an interactive, browser-accessible shell for managing all Azure resources. It integrates with Azure Portal, VS Code, Windows Terminal, MS Learn, and more. The service hosts millions of sessions monthly, ensuring that the Cloud Shell environment is up-to-date with the latest tools and features that system administrators rely on for day-to-day operations, such as Azure CLI, Ansible, Python, and Kubernetes control.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Development: Lead the design, development, and maintenance of tooling to support the deployment and management of Azure Cloud Shell in new regions. Ensure smooth transitions with no customer impact.
- Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to develop release plans and deliver high-quality code and services.
- Training and Documentation: Conduct training sessions about new deployments for the wider team and provide necessary documentation and resources.
- Customer Engagement: Engage with customers to drive Azure cloud technologies adoption by solving complex technical problems and optimizing critical solutions.
- Code Optimization: Create, implement, optimize, debug, refactor, and review code to improve performance and maintainability.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#/.NET, JavaScript, Python, Golang, or Rust.
- 2+ years of Linux software engineering experience.
- 1+ years of Linux container experience.
- 1+ years as a DevOps lead or engineering manager.
Preferred
- 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#/.NET, JavaScript, Python, Golang, or Rust.
- 4+ years of experience developing on and for Linux.
