Job Overview
Join MongoDB as a Software Engineer 3 in the Atlas Search Systems team, where you will be instrumental in building and enhancing our cloud-based distributed systems software. This role is based in New York, NY, and offers the flexibility of either in-office or hybrid work arrangements.
About Atlas Search
Atlas Search is a multi-cloud service that enables users to perform complex full-text and vector search queries using the MongoDB Query Language. Our focus is on allowing users to concentrate on relevance and data retrieval without worrying about the underlying search infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Implementation: Contribute to the design, implementation, and support of projects that enhance the scalability of Atlas Search, ensuring a seamless experience for large workloads.
- Collaboration: Work with a collaborative team that values sound technical decision-making and building systems that delight our customers.
- Leadership Opportunities: Lead projects and own subsystems, providing input on the team’s roadmap and helping to determine the architecture of our system.
Success Measures
- 3 Months: Gain a solid understanding of the team’s operations and contribute to existing projects with several small improvements or bug fixes.
- 6 Months: Actively participate in code reviews and team meetings, contributing to project designs.
- 12 Months: Lead a small project, propose improvements to our code, product, or team processes, and have a thorough understanding of the systems our team owns.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience in designing, building, testing, and maintaining backend software in a complex codebase.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in developing distributed systems and cloud services, with experience in at least one modern statically typed programming language, particularly Java.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills.
- Mindset: A growth mindset with a strong sense of ownership over your work.
