Critical Infrastructure Engineer

The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Division of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking a Critical Infrastructure Engineer to join the Critical Infrastructure team within the Systems Engineering and Operations department. This role involves supporting DoIT's Critical Infrastructure service by providing IT infrastructure and server support to campus customers utilizing Life/Safety systems and systems subject to external audit for compliance, including video surveillance and door access systems.
Responsibilities

System Engineer II
- Identify, troubleshoot, research, and resolve routine issues on varied systems, platforms, networks, and applications to ensure system security, confidentiality, compatibility, and functionality.
- Design, install, configure, test, and maintain routine and varied automation, hardware, and associated equipment according to customer specifications.
- Assist with planning and coordinating system logistics, workflows, upgrades, and system security.
- Document and disseminate deployed systems, system upgrades, or changes according to established policies and procedures.
- Install firewalls, host and client access mechanisms, permissions, and user accounts.

System Engineer III
- Perform systems engineering work that is complex, project-related, and non-routine.
- Provide guidance and training to other staff and serve as a subject matter expert to internal stakeholders.
- Plan and coordinate system logistics, workflows, upgrades, and system security.
- Document and disseminate deployed systems, system upgrades, or changes according to established policies and procedures.
- Install firewalls, host and client access mechanisms, permissions, and user accounts.
Qualifications

Required
- Professional experience in administration of both Windows and Linux server environments.
- Experience with hypervisors such as Vmware ESXi, Citrix ZenServer, ProxMox, or KVM.
- Experience in firewall management.
- Experience in IT environments subject to regulatory compliance audits such as HIPPA, FISMA, ITAR, NIST 800-53.
- Experience managing Life/Safety systems such as Lenel Access Control, Johnson Control MetaSys.

Preferred
- Experience with scripting/programming languages such as PowerShell, BASH, Python, Go, or Ruby.
Work Type
This position is eligible for 100% remote work, partial remote work, or fully on-site. Remote work requires an approved remote work agreement, which is reviewed and approved annually.
Additional Information
- This position will be part of an on-call rotation and may require work outside of normal office hours.
- Candidates must be eligible for and maintain Select Agent clearance by passing an additional FBI Bio Terrorism background check.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without need of employer sponsorship.
Salary
- Minimum $85,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
- Well-qualified applicants for the System Engineer II position can anticipate earning between $85,000 - $95,000.
- Well-qualified applicants eligible for the System Engineer III position can anticipate earning between $95,000-$105,000.
