Senior Systems Engineer (Ruby)

The Role

Join Bird as a Senior Systems Engineer, where you will be a key player in our Pusher team. Pusher Channels and Beams provide real-time communication between servers, apps, and devices, supporting a variety of applications from multiplayer gaming to real-time user lists and maps. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the full stack of the product, including infrastructure, backend, API level, connectivity, and UI. You will work alongside a talented team to provide support and maintenance for Pusher.

What You'll Do

• Help maintain and scale the Pusher service, supporting thousands of customers daily.
• Bring new ideas and methodologies to optimize and scale Pusher.
• Work autonomously on a mission to provide first-class customer trust through a reliable and scalable product.
• Collaborate with other engineers to solve system design and implementation problems, celebrating every triumph.
• Problem-solve issues based on business/customer need and impact, working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What You'll Bring

• At least 5 years of relevant software development experience.
• Strong experience with infrastructure and operations in AWS.
• Strong experience with Redis.
• Experience with Ruby is important.
• Experience with Terraform.
• Experience dealing with high traffic applications is a must.
• A strong product mindset and experience working in product-based companies.
• Knowledge of (cloud) infrastructure principles (load balancing, high availability, containerized services, database configurations, security) is a must.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

It Will Also Be Evaluated If You Have

• Experience with Golang.
• Experience with Kafka.
• Experience with Vault.
• Experience with Kubernetes.
• Ability to teach others, mentorships and help your peers grow.
